The Lithuanian Statistical Association


The Lithuanian Statistical Association (LSS – Lietuvos statistikų sąjunga) was founded shortly after Lithuania regained its independence. The idea emerged in 1991, during the visit in Lithuania the President of the International Statistical Institute prof. Gunnar Kulldorff, and was actively supported by the heads of Statistics Lithuania Vladimiras Trukšinas and PetrasAdlys, prof. Vytautas Statulevičius, prof. Rimantas Rudzkis and others.   

The Association was established in 1992, April 24. At that meeting prof. Stanislovas Martišius was elected as the first president.

At present, 94 members belong to the Association. The incumbent president, R. J. Vaicenavičius was elected in 2012. A semi-regular seminars are organized (in 2012 there were five seminars). Weekly seminars on statistics are also held at Vilnius University. The annual Lithuanian Journal of Statistics (Lietuvos statistikos darbai) is being published by the Association and the Statistics Lithuania.
